New York, New Amsterdam ??
TGIF! I have been looking forward to this weekend. Its the one break I get after all the major move. So, as i said, I’m going for some pampering like a spa massage or something. hehe. Went to saada’s house on wed for more finalised planning. while waiting for her, i went to the woodlands library to look at some travel guides. I’ve been reading about new york and its history. Learnt that New York in the 1600′s was known as New Amsterdam cause the Dutch were one the first migrants there to settle down. The first in-your-face governor was peter styvesant ( isn’t that the brand of a cigarette?) anw, he made major changes in new amsterdam like post offices, banks, newspaper and all other infrastructures. He ruled for a good 40 years.
But in 1664, English warships sailed into the harbour and to avoid bloodshed, Stuyvesant surrendered and soon after, New Amsterdam was renamed New York (after the Duke of York, brother of King Charles the second). – I didnt know that.
Anw, the commute to Singapore for the past 2 days has been a breeze. No jam coming out of JB – at all.
